Dawson Tyre Explosion 2015
A tyre on a large mining truck exploded at the Dawson coal mine, in the Bowen Basin, early on Monday killing one contractor and leaving a second seriously injured.
The police spokesman said emergency crews had arrived on the scene about 6.30am. He later confirmed one man had died in the explosion.
A QAS spokesman said they were called to the incident at 4.50am where they transported a 21-year-old man with suspected collarbone and shoulder fracture to Theodore Hospital. It is believed the man will be transported for further treatment to a major hospital. While a Leighton Holdings spokesperson said it was too soon for the company to comment
