2023 Dugald River
The accident happened at 8:45am on Wednesday, 125 metres below the surface at MMG Limited's Dugald River underground mine site, located 70 kilometres north-west of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland.
Rescue teams used drones and void scanning technology to locate the light vehicle the men had been operating before it plummeted into a 25m hole inside a stope.
In a statement this morning, Perenti, the parent company of the miners' employer, Barminco, said the rescue team had been working through the night, including with heavy underground mining equipment, to gain access to the vehicle.
On Wednesday morning a drilling rig behind the utility also fell into the hole, but the operator of the rig was able to escape and was later rescued.
This accident claimed the lives of 2 people, these were: Dylan Langridge, Trevor Davis
